It’s Barcelona’s turn at Show Us Your Type

I love fonts. What can I say, I’m a bit of a geek. I’m not a designer by any means, but I’m pretty anal. And I imagine you would have to be too if you designed fonts. There’s some great fonts out there – see the beautiful Cocktail Shaker used for the Homage to BCN logo above – and some universally hated ones such as Comic Sans.

I love cities too. I’ve always loved cities. I think I get it from my mother. I have dreams of retiring to the country some day with a dog and some pigs. And an actual human being too would be nice. But will it ever happen? Probably not. I love cities too much.

So thank God I came across the Show Us Your Type website. Because they love fonts and cities too!

SHOW US YOUR TYPE is a project about two things we adore, type and cities. We started this project to provide a creative platform for designers to share their talents and explore cities from a different perspective.

Ok the ‘creative platform’ bit is slightly wanky but that’s designers for you. I still love what they’re doing.

They choose a city and ask designers to create a poster that offers their perspective of the city using type. They have covered Berlin, Hong Kong, New York and of course, Barcelona. It’s their own homage to Barcelona. Next up is Kingston, Jamaica.

Take a look and let me know which one is your favourite. Personally I’m going for Bruno Albuquerque’s effort. I wonder if he knows he’s named after the largest city in New Mexico.

  • Sexy fonts!! Love it. Barcelona ones are top quality, especially the Bernat Caval one… the Goran Patlejch one is nice as well. It’s a good idea for a website. It’s been bookmarked.
