Flotarium: Release Your Inner Floater

Flotarium in Barcelona

Have you ever been to the Dead Sea? No, me neither. So this is as close as you’re going to get without actually going there. Al least floating-wise.

The Flotarium just up from Diagonal near Passeig de Gràcia is the place to go to relax and let any tension from the day dissipate.

What is a flotarium?

Each room has its own little pod filled with warm hyper-saline water. You go in, lock the door, strip down to your trunks (in my case) and get in. The lid closes, the music comes on and you spend an hour just floating. Complete sensory isolation. You get an incredible feeling of weightlessness and it’s pretty much impossible to sink. You could go to sleep if you felt like it.

Being a virgin floater I was a little nervous I have to say. The closed pod seemed a bit unsafe, what if everyone just buggered off. But it’s fine I promise. There are lights inside, you control the door of the pod so you can have it open while floating if you wish, but importantly you can let yourself out. The only thing you have to do is try to relax and get into it. That’s when you’ll see real benefits.

I’ve only been once. But I imagine if you went regularly it would become better and better and you’d fall into a state of deep relaxation far quicker and therefore experience a greater period of relief.

Release your inner floater!

I thoroughly recommend giving it a go! I was pleasantly surprised. You can go for a single session for €40 or buy a block of sessions which starts to work out cheaper. A great idea for a gift too!

Just close your eyes, relax, and float!
