El Principal del Eixample

If you’re looking for somewhere a little special to eat this summer then you could do a lot worse than El Principal del Eixample. In particular their beautiful interior courtyard.

This stunning location in Eixample is run by former Grupo Tragaluz stalwart Joan Ferré who after 25 years with the company finally had the opportunity to run his own restaurant.

Chef Joan Ferré’s menu is contemporary Catalan and Mediterranean cuisine. The flavours are traditional but brought right up to date with some innovative ingredients and a delightful touch.

The menu at El Principal del Eixample

How about morel mushrooms with creamy foie gras sauce followed by traditional oven roasted kid shoulder? Or langoustine cannelloni followed by boneless lamb loin, three sauces and kale chips. Or my favourite, squid with roasted vegetables and a steak tartare made at the table, just how you like it.

Go to their website to see what’s currently on the menu.

You can choose from the restaurant inside, the courtyard out back, or if you really want to push the boat out there is a private dining area that can be hired.

Or if you simply want to check it out and fancy a cocktail then the bar at the front of the restaurant is also a delight. They even have a disco downstairs!

“Without a doubt, a unique restaurant and space.”

This restaurant is not cheap (their menú del día is €26). But for that special occasion, in an idyllic setting in the middle of Eixample, it’s hard to beat that beautiful courtyard.

And if you’re very lucky, you might even get some live music!
